I've always lived and died (I mean, you know, lived and LIVED EVEN MORE WILDLY) by chaos. I never really had to embrace it because it was all I really knew or understood. I never understood home ownership as an aspiration and I haven't lived in any US state for more than 3 years since 2010. But now, crazily, I've just committed to a PhD program in Athens, Ohio and I feel like we're HOME, at least for the foreseeable future. It's beautiful here, and this program is a 5-year program which might be a little shorter for me because I'm coming in with other grad credits, but still. This lovely place we're in now that's coming together as we continue to unpack feels like HOME BASE in a way I've never really experienced. And for me, such a life — even *wanting* such a life — is such a seismic change that this stability feels a little like chaos, in a good way.

Congratulations on your new job!! There’s NOTHING like a creative mind not overwhelmed with day-to-day stress, so I’m sure I’m not alone in being excited to see where this newsletter goes from here.

Thank you so much, Sarah! And honestly? I aspire to be you. I feel like I lived a chaotic childhood and have spent my entire adulthood trying to find stability. But there is so much joy in chaos!!! This post really reminds me of that, so thank you so much!

!!! Thank you!! I was just telling someone that if there's anything this moment in history can actually give to us all it's the right to do the sort of things we once thought we were only allowed to do in lucid dreams, because WHY act like any of this is normal? There's never been a more sensible time not to prioritize doing the sensible thing!

OMG totally. Remember living in precendented times?! I miss those days...

As much as there is to miss, it makes me feel both better and worse to know that a lot of what's exploding right now started with Regan. The way that art and human rights are being dismantled in America is what a specific kind of politician has always secretly wanted and now they're getting it. Why they're a literal death cult is obviously a more complicated question. Now, as far as the people we were supposed to trust to represent us doing basically-nothing and/or actively supporting evil, well...I have no idea where we're headed on that score. I have to believe we've got a full-scale volcanic uprising-for-justice on the horizon.
